![]() Mortal Kombat 11 is an interesting game, thanks in large part to its slower, more deliberate fundamentals. And the fact that both gauges fill up so fast means that you’re never really far from pulling off, say, an extended bicycle kick or a Getup counter. Never preferring to horde super meters, the distinction between a defensive gauge and the offensive gauge was a great one. There’s also an emphasis on constantly using up meters in MK11 that I deeply appreciate. Capcom, neutral-heavy games like Street Fighter 4, highly technical games like Guilty Gear, 3D fighters like Tekken 7 and Soul Calibur, I thought that maybe Mortal Kombat 11 might finally bring the series in a direction that I might enjoy. ![]() So as someone who’s played, and enjoyed a wide range of fighting games – from anime fighters like BlazBlue, tag fighters like Marvel vs. I have, at best, cursory knowledge about the world(s) of Mortal Kombat, and a lot of that rather innacurate knowledge comes from the movie – the greatest video game movie adaptation of all time. And while I did play a lot of the Mortal Kombat games over the years, I never could take them seriously enough to get deep into their mechanics or lore. As time went on, however, I got really deep into fighting games. ![]() ![]() I didn’t hate it, of course, but in my younger, stupider days I did believe myself to be above just liking games for the sake of violence. I’ve never really been a huge fan of Mortal Kombat. ![]()
